After Takoradi’s trailblazing start, Koforidua shines with innovation, inclusion, and digital transformation.

After leading the road to Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW) 2025, Takoradi passed the baton to Koforidua—where creativity, collaboration, and visionary thinking took center stage. Hosted by Media Billo at Koforidua Technical University (KTU), the Eastern Region edition brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, students, policymakers, and thought leaders under the theme “Driving Digital Innovation for Ghana’s Sustainable Development.”

Over two days, Koforidua proved that innovation flourishes when culture, leadership, and technology converge with a shared purpose.

Excitement built across the region ahead of the event, as GDIW unveiled a stellar lineup of speakers, partners, and cultural icons. Distinguished guests included Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister; Hon. Dzifa Tegah, Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the NDC; and Nana Kwesi Ababio I, Apagyahene of the Adeiso Traditional Council and CEO of TRUEmpire Group, who chaired the Eastern Edition.

Their presence underscored GDIW’s mission to connect innovation with leadership and inclusivity—demonstrating a collective commitment to building a digitally empowered Eastern Region and a stronger national innovation ecosystem.

The event opened on a high note with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony led by Nana Kwesi Ababio I, followed by an exhibition tour with Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey. The atmosphere buzzed with energy as innovators showcased digital solutions tackling challenges in health, education, finance, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

A highlight of the day was the appearance of cultural icon Akosua Agyapong, whose story of resilience and creativity inspired participants. Her message bridged the worlds of culture and technology, reminding all that true innovation is as much about people and purpose as it is about tools and code.

Adding to the momentum, Dr. Ebenezer Komla Gavua, Head of the Computer Science Department at KTU, delivered a thought-provoking address linking academia to practical innovation. His insights reaffirmed KTU’s pivotal role in nurturing Ghana’s next generation of digital talent.

Dynamic moderation by Bernice Senyo Zevor, CEO of Lavitesse Agribusiness, kept the sessions engaging, actionable, and inclusive—ensuring every voice contributed to shaping solutions for Ghana’s future.

Running alongside the main event, the GDIW Hackathon brought together young innovators to develop prototypes that addressed pressing local and national challenges. Teams collaborated with seasoned mentors, refining their ideas into scalable solutions with real social and economic impact.

The creativity, teamwork, and passion displayed reflected Ghana’s vibrant innovation culture—proving once again that the nation’s youth are ready to lead its digital transformation.

Discussions on inclusion, gender empowerment, and leadership ran throughout the event. Hon. Dzifa Tegah emphasised the need to ensure women and marginalised groups remain central to Ghana’s digital evolution. This message echoed GDIW’s core principle that innovation must serve everyone, everywhere.

The Eastern Region edition concluded as a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community spirit. It sparked new partnerships, inspired actionable solutions, and highlighted how cross-sector collaboration—from public to private to traditional leadership—can drive sustainable progress.

As the curtains closed in Koforidua, one message was clear: Ghana’s digital future is being built in every region, by communities working together to innovate for impact.

With the momentum from Koforidua, the GDIW 2025 journey continues—next stop, Kumasi.
